The latest trade traffic statistics from SWIFT reveal there has been a 2.23% decline in the use of documentary trade instruments during 2011.
The figures, which examine the traffic of letters of credit and documentary collections over the SWIFT network, show that documentary trade financing is continuing to move to open account financing, but market insiders state the drop in letters of credit (LCs) could also be partly attributed to a decline in global trade.
