Much of the discussion on day one of Trade Finance’s Global Export Finance conference in Berlin was dictated by the liquidity and regulatory factors affecting the industry. It was fitting, therefore, that day two opened with a panel of export credit agencies discussing the practical ways in which they seek to combat these issues and encourage new participants in the market.
Moderator Valentino Gallo, global head of export and agency finance at Citi, fielded questions to the panel on their capabilities and recent product developments. The first speaker Dr. Hans Janus, member of the management board at Euler Hermes, responded by highlighting that although collaboration between banks and agencies are evolving, as an agency without direct lending capabilities Hermes cannot directly help address this question of liquidity.
