Asia: Bright outlook for ECA-backed deals

Compared to other regions of the world, particularly Russia/CIS and the Middle East, Asia-Pacific has, for the most part, been characterised by sluggish ECA-backed activity. All this looks set to change as the Asia-Pacific region finds its real export credit financing potential with a wealth of large-scale capital equipment supply transactions and projects in the pipeline.
There is a massive need for plant and infrastructure across the region. According to Asia Development Bank (ADB) figures, Asia needs $8 trillion infrastructure investment in the next 10 years. Certainly, ECA-backed financing is going to be one of the major sources of financing for those projects – although other solutions will also be required to meet all the demands.
