At the IFC’s fourth Annual Bank Partners Meeting in Istanbul, the hosts honoured the successes of its confirming and issuing banks under the Global Trade Finance Programme (GTFP). This year, the GTFP topped $10 billion in guarantees. Of the guarantees issued to 30 April 2011, 27% of the total occurred in Latin America, followed by sub-Saharan Africa (21%), MENA (18%) Asia (17%) and Europe and Central Asia (17%).
To date, the GTFP has 114 confirming banks, it also has 225 issuing banks in over 89 countries. It was announced at the conference that BBVA’s subsidiaries in Columbia and Chile had been recently added (26/05/11). In terms of USD exposure, Citibank, BNP Paribas, Deutsche bank, JP Morgan and Rabobank are the leading confirming banks for FY11, in descending order.
