If 2009 was a year like no other for trade finance, then 2010 was the year in which the market rediscovered itself and got back to doing what it does best – providing well structured, innovative, risk mitigating solutions to keep the wheels of the global economy turning. Keeping deals tight was very much the name of the game!
This was a year in which the export credit agencies showed unprecedented flexibility and lenders explored new markets and new opportunities, and borrowers – usually associated with other types of financing approached the market for ECA solutions. In terms of sectors, telecoms, especially satellite financings, had a strong year, as did aircraft, shipping, road and rail.
Russia features big this year, as does Brazil, and we have Deals of the Year from countries as diverse as Argentina, Benin, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Pakistan, Belarus, Vietnam, Australia and Gabon.
Many of this year’s winning deals have tested lenders’ appetites and set new pricing benchmarks, in addition to demonstrating the collaboration between banks, law firms, corporate and agencies that makes trade finance work and allows it to break new ground year after year.
Selecting the Deals of the Year is no easy task and requires a great deal of time – this year we received in excess of 345 individual deal submissions from 52 institutions – and we appreciate your patience while we examine, verify and evaluate deal details. The Trade Finance Deals of the Year remains the longest running and most comprehensive annual snapshot of transactions in the trade, commodity and export finance market.
We offer our sincere thanks to those of you that took the time to submit deal information and work with us on producing this issue of the magazine. We hope you find the following pages useful and inspiring as you continue to innovate and build on the successes of 2010. Trade Finance Annual Awards Dinners
The Trade Finance Awards Dinner will take place in London on Wednesday, 29 June, 2011 at the Sheraton Park Lane Hotel, London. The evening will see the presentation of the global and EMEA Deals of the Year (DoY) as well as the Trade Finance Awards for Excellence.
The Americas Awards Dinner will take place in New York for the Americas DoYs and Americas Awards for Excellence on Thursday, 23 June, 2011 at the Roosevelt Hotel, New York.
The Asia-Pacific Awards Dinner will take place in Hong Kong for the Asian DoYs and Asian Awards for Excellence on Thursday, 7 July, 2011 at the Conrad, Hong Kong.
