On Friday, 27 February 2010, an 8.8 magnitude earthquake struck central Chile. The regions of Chile most affected by the earthquake accounted for approximately 12% of Santander’s loan portfolio and the bank immediately implemented a number of actions to keep the bank functioning and help the country overall.
The bank worked 48 hours non-stop over the weekend following the earthquake and by Monday 1st 2010, all systems were up and running, including all remote channels. Clients in most of Chile were therefore able to transact normally, a major feat considering...
