This article is the introduction to Trade Finance’s Guide to Emerging Markets 2010. The guide will be distributed to all subscribers with the December 2009/January 2010 print edition of Trade Finance.
Discussing finance to emerging market borrowers in the last month of 2009 would be likely to produce very different views on the success or failure of 2009. For some, the year would have produced nothing but bad news in existing transactions and ver y little to report in new transactions. For others, it would have been a year of well taken opportunities, increased income and optimism for 2010. For some it might have been a combination of both, and for others a year in which nothing, or virtually nothing, was achieved in respect of new transactions. Why could there be such a divergence of opinion?
