Absa shows wider African ambitions

Absa Corporate and Merchant Bank is supporting fertilizer and cocoa
sales in Africa with almost $90 million worth of financing for two
trade deals.
The first loan is worth $29 million and will allow the Zambian
Food Reserve Agency to import fertilizer from Sasol and Omnia in
South Africa. The money is designed to help subsistence farmers
gain access to fertilizer as well as maize seed. Such farmers make
up 80% of the farming community in Zambia.
